Image result for facebook twitterThe main corporations that provide social media services are corporations such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, the list goes on and on but all of these social media corporations provide a similar service, each with their own unique features. There is a huge amount of social media sites accessible across the globe today, but the main 2 social media sites are Facebook, Twitter and Google+, so what is it exactly that makes these sites like many others popular?

Facebook

Facebook is the biggest social media site that currently exists with:-


  • 1.28 billion daily active users on average for March 2017
  • 1.94 billion monthly active users as of March 31, 2017

    • The reason for why Facebook is popular in my opinion is the fact that it's such an easy site to use both for the older and younger generation and there is a good mix of both currently on the site. Facebook provides many popular features such as "Facebook Live" which allows users to livestream themselves to friends and family but this feature is also used by many big celebrities such as Vin Diesel, Will Smith etc which allows their fans to talk to them and ask questions.

    Twitter

    Twitter is currently the second biggest social media site with 328 million monthly active users as of last count, dwarfed by Facebook's users but still a huge social media entity. In my opinion, Twitter is much more popular among young adults and teenagers rather than the older generation because its not quite as simple to use as Facebook. While not quite as popular, Twitter still offers a huge range of features, their biggest, like Facebook is probably "Periscope" which is Twitter's livestream service but unlike Facebook, Periscope allows those watching a livestream to donate their money to help support those that they are watching.

      This is a very informative post that give detailed information on two of the biggest social media enterprises in the world today and the services that they provide and also provided recent figures for the number of users of the most popular social media site at the moment which is Facebook and provides details on the next big social media enterprise which is Twitter.

      Only thing I would probably suggest is to do a piece on Google+ and the services that it provides as it is one of the big three right next to Facebook and Twitter so It would be worthwhile looking into in the future.

        I also agree, I feel that snap chat is extremely popular but more popular for the younger generation.

        I was going to look into Google+ but I feel that the only reason as to why it's so popular is due to the amount of accounts that have been made on it, I feel that a lot of people, myself included, have an account to receive emails etc but only use it for that function.

        I also have to agree with you two, despite Snapchat being one of the most popular social media platforms among people our age, it isn't quite as popular as Facebook and Twitter hence why it isn't included in my post.

      A very good interesting article that gives out a lot of interesting facts on the main social media networks. The article made me understand just how popular Facebook and Twitter really are, also makes me realize snap chat and Instagram aren't that popular. Also highlights how far Facebook and Twitter have really came since they started.
