Privacy Within Social Media
Problems with Privacy
Social media has became such a big part of everyday life for people and businesses as it allows them to stay connected with others from around the globe but one thing people should be aware of is that anything that is posted will leave a footprint/trace online and people will be out there trying to invade your privacy for a different variety of reasons such as trying to steal your identity meaning that they may use your accounts for criminal activity.
Protecting Privacy
Privacy in social media has became important as you do not know who exactly going to view your information online so measures are going to have to be taken to try and stay as safe as possible as you are never going to be completely safe but there are ways to reduce the risks such as making sure that the privacy settings on the sites have been set up properly as social media sites like Facebook have had problems before with updating and privacy settings for accounts reset completely meaning what would have been private before has now been made public so making sure privacy setting have been set properly sure be number one priority.
Limiting the amount of data that you share on social media as by having too much of your personal information you putting yourself at risk as people will tend to look around social media accounts to find out about individuals and if you have posted a lot of personal information then you are making yourself more susceptible to things such as stalking and hacking . Lie about security questions for social media account for instance a common one could be about your pets name and if you regularly are talking about pet on social media then people trying to access account will have an easier time trying to get in and this could go for most of the more common security questions. Another way to protect privacy is to make sure that you read the fine print before you sign up for these sites as usually you get to see what information that the site will require so by making sure that you understand what information that they will be wanting then you can decide whether you want to give such details as they may give them to third party companies for marketing purposes.

ReplyDeletePrivacy is and always will be a big factor on social media, people hear and read stories about people's and business' social media accounts / pages being hacked and having their private information stolen but we as individuals have a tendency of thinking "that won't happen to me" but everyone that uses social media is at risk and I have to agree with your point about lying about security questions, it's something I do on all of my accounts and would recommend to anyone that creates an account on social media.
