Possible Improvements to social media services that would improve personal privacy
Social media can be a very scary place when it comes to certain situations such as people pretending to be someone else on sites, peoples lives can be ruined within minutes all due to one person framing them and pretending to be them. Not to mention people that take things too far to find out lots about a certain someone from their social media profile. The online world can be a very haunting place.
.
From a website online, researches have been known to be looking up ways to improve social media's privacy for users, they talk of how they need to create more friendly tools on the websites so that as many people can stay safe and protected.
Some examples of how we can make social media more private is by having a tool that lets you see who's viewed your profile, some apps have this tool such as an app called Musical.ly, but Facebook and twitter, the worlds current two top social media sites don't seem to have this tool properly. With this precaution, it means people can see if they have any randomers looking up on their profiles from time to time.
Another way we could improve social media privacy would be for the creators of the websites to create more moderators to moderate the situations, this all leads to people complaining that they get no privacy, but at the same time, it would help stop others from jumping into other people's privacy too much.
And finally another way we could improve privacy settings on social media is by having more confirmation tools, so if someone pretends to be someone else, the original person being framed can apply with their passport/form of id to prove they are being framed.
Here is a link to a couple of websites that talk about possible improvements we could make to make our social media accounts more private.

Really good post, it was very direct which I personally think makes for a better and more enjoyable read, I especially enjoyed the links you used.
ReplyDeleteAh a really good and no holds barred article but, as these websites; Facebook & Twitter are on the Worldwide Web then there is always going to be parts of it that will be public and readily available UNLESS the profile / domain owner sets items to private, there are tools and setting to enhance the security of a "profile" but sadly some people do not use them, maybe they want all to see, maybe not but the only way to combat it is use the security and privacy tools provided.
ReplyDeleteYour reference in your article to "having a tool that lets you see who's viewed your profile" is more or less, in my opinion, falls into the "nosey" category which in turn is similar to the "nosey" people viewing it in the first place.
People can only see on Social Media what the profile / platform/ domain holder wants them to see, if they don't want them to see make it private.
