Social Media Used Today.

Types of Contemporary Social Media

Social media is now part of everyday life for most people as it allows people to be able to communicate  and share things with others Some of the biggest social media network below:

Facebook

Facebook is a sprawling network that can be signed up to by inputting details to create an account by which you can do a multitude of things with. It would include things such as status updates showing what the individual is thinking or has been doing throughout the day and not only that but it has also became a tool for helping reconnect people for instance if a friend has moved away they can still keep in contact with their circle of friends and even if people haven't talked for years they may come across them again and strike up conversation thus rekindling old friendships.

Businesses use Facebook as a form of advertising as they usually each have their own page relation to their business and they regularly update it with things such as products and services they are offering and any special deals that they may have, since the world is more dependent on social media millions of people have Facebook accounts and will like to companies page to keep update and to see what other people are thinking. I believe that a main problem of Facebook for Businesses is that negative press can travel fast as if you get bad reviews then people may more than likely take to social media and this is bad because of the way it spreads since millions use it can affect consumer base as many people may decide to stop giving you their custom meaning less money is coming in thus affecting the business and it's entirety.

Twitter

Twitter is a micro-blogging site where people or businesses put up short posts which are called tweets and on this social media platform people who likes a specific users tweets or is interested in a business/product then they may follow them on their twitter page meaning that they will be kept upto date on any future posts that may be made as twitter has become such a big trend now that even business have now joined up to help increase there presence on social media and online as it will help them reach new customers in the market. I believe that a main problem for Users would be that that it doesn't matter if they delete and take down their comments as their will always be a digital footprint left and once something is posted on the web it stays there so this could affect future job aspirations as employers will want to look at activity on social media to see if who they are hiring isn't going to affect the reputation of the business.

Instagram

Instagram is a platform in which users of it can upload, edit and share their photos which users of Instagram or over a variety of other methods such as Facebook, Twitter and even the Instagram website itself. Instagram is actually owned by Facebook as they purchased the rights to it in 2012. One problem that Instagram seems to have is there is a lot of cyber-bullying which links into issues regarding social media because pictures are being posted make people within them easy targets to ridicule and post derogatory comments about so this is one of the sites that you really need to watch what you are posting be careful on the kinds of pictures that you share with people as you could make yourself a target. I believe that this is the most problematic in terms of personal use alongside Snapchat so I reckon there needs to be some changes that can help try and deal with this problem as cyber-bullying is at an all-time high .

Snapchat

Snapchat is an up and coming social media platform that main purpose allows users to capture videos and pictures that supposedly disappear after a few seconds. A major implication that users of Snapchat fail to realise is that even though it says the photo/video or whatnot is gone again the digital footprint remains and not only that but the safety of younger users is brought into question by parents as they can be exposes to inappropriate videos and photos which can be worrying.

  1. Personally, I think you could have included more on the topic as I think It was a bit short, maybe even adding a personal, social and business implication for each site you talked about.

  3. Did not know that Facebook owns Instagram! very interesting to learn about. Also good to hear about what each app consists of in this day and age. Maybe in the future, talk about snap chat too as that is a very popular social media site that is becoming well known.
